ELT: Electronic Lien & Title
ELT lets lenders place liens and receive electronic titles from the Georgia Department of Revenue. It's mandatory for every lender, buy-here pay-here dealers included.
What is ELT?
Paperless titles for lenders
The Electronic Lien and Title (ELT) program provides paperless vehicle titles to participating lenders. It exchanges lien information between the Georgia Department of Revenue and the lender, through ETR service providers, whose software sends electronic lien information to lenders and the Department.
ELT is mandatory for lenders. Under Georgia law (HB 865, O.C.G.A. § 40-3-26), Electronic Lien and Title has been required since January 1, 2013 for every vehicle finance institution: buy-here pay-here dealers, finance companies, and anyone else who finances vehicles, boats or mobile homes in Georgia.
